Editorial Policy

Last updated: 1 August 2026

This page sets out the standards we hold our own content to. It exists partly so readers can judge us against it, and partly because writing rules down makes them harder to quietly abandon.

Independence

  • No brand pays for placement, ranking or a score on this site.
  • No brand sees our content before publication or has any right of review.
  • We earn affiliate commissions and commercial installation revenue, both disclosed. Neither is a factor in scoring, and our published recommendations frequently favour lower-commission products.
  • Where we have a commercial interest in a category we write about — commercial and industrial water treatment — we say so on the page rather than presenting it as neutral editorial.

Ratings and structured data

  • Editorial scores out of 10 are our own assessment, built from five published sub-scores, and are labelled as such.
  • Marketplace star ratings are published only where they have been verified against the live listing. We do not estimate, extrapolate or invent them.
  • Aggregate rating structured data is emitted only for verified marketplace figures. Fabricated review markup is a search-engine violation and, more importantly, a lie to readers.
  • Owner-experience summaries describe themes reported by buyers and are labelled as illustrative rather than statistical.

Prices and specifications

  • Every product page displays the date its price was last verified. We do not publish undated prices.
  • Prices are described as indicative street prices, because Indian marketplace pricing moves constantly.
  • Specifications come from manufacturer literature and are re-checked on review. Where a brand's marketing term differs from what the technology actually does — "e-boiling", "zero waste RO", inflated stage counts — we explain the difference rather than repeat the term.

Data we compile ourselves

  • City-level TDS, water source, hardness and AQI figures are indicative planning ranges compiled from publicly reported patterns, not live readings. Every page carrying them says so and tells readers to test their own supply.
  • Commercial cost ranges are budgetary planning figures, always presented as ranges, never as quotations, and always accompanied by the reason a firm price requires a water analysis.
  • We review both annually and correct them when better information is available.

Health and safety claims

  • Where a marketing claim is not supported by mainstream clinical evidence — alkaline water being the clearest example — we state that plainly, including on pages where we recommend those products for other reasons.
  • Where a product category cannot protect against a serious contaminant, we say so explicitly. UV purifiers do nothing for arsenic or fluoride, and we do not let that get lost in nuance.
  • We advise readers to see a doctor for health concerns, and we do not present purifiers as treatments for medical conditions.
  • We advise against ozone-generating air cleaners on respiratory-safety grounds.

Business claims

  • We do not publish certifications we do not hold, client logos we lack written permission to use, or client counts we cannot substantiate.
  • Where we describe service capability, we describe what is actually available, including saying plainly when coverage in a location is limited.
  • Brand customer-care phone numbers are deliberately not published, because stale numbers route readers to third parties impersonating brand support. We link to official support pages instead.

Programmatic and local content

We publish local guidance for a large number of cities, and we generate it from real per-city data — water source, TDS band, hardness, AQI profile — so that recommendations genuinely differ between cities. We do not publish pages that differ only by a swapped city name, and we do not generate comparison pages for product pairings nobody actually weighs against each other. Both are doorway-page patterns that serve no reader.

Updates and corrections

  • Product prices are reviewed regularly; the verification date on each page tells you when.
  • Guides display both their published and last-updated dates.
  • If we get something wrong, email betterworkindia@gmail.com and we will correct it. Material corrections are reflected in the updated date.
  • If a product is discontinued or a brand's service situation changes materially, we update or retire the recommendation rather than leaving stale advice in place.
