Most industrial RO failures are predictable and preventable, and almost all of them announce themselves in the operating data before they stop production. Falling salt rejection, rising differential pressure across a stage, rising feed pressure for the same flow — each points at a specific cause, and each gives you weeks of warning if someone is reading the log.

The failures that genuinely surprise people are pump failures and instrumentation faults, which is why local spares holding matters more than headline AMC pricing for production-critical plants.

The diagnostic table below is the one we work from. It is also useful for your own operators, because correctly identifying the symptom before calling for service materially shortens the repair.

Capacity, application & indicative cost

SymptomLikely causeAction
Product TDS rising, flow normalMembrane degradation or o-ring/seal bypassProbe for bypass; check salt rejection per stage; replace membrane or seals
Product flow falling, pressure risingMembrane fouling or scalingCIP with appropriate chemistry; review antiscalant dosing and pre-treatment
Differential pressure rising across a stageColloidal or biological foulingCIP; check pre-treatment performance and SDI
Pump running, low pressureWorn pump, valve open, or feed starvationCheck pump current and feed pressure; inspect pre-filters for blockage
Plant not startingLevel switch, HPS, dry-run relay or contactorCheck interlocks and control panel before assuming pump failure
Frequent auto shut-offFeed pressure low or HPS setting driftVerify feed pressure; recalibrate HPS

Figures are indicative planning ranges for budgetary approval, not quotations. Actual cost and achievable output depend on your feed-water analysis, materials of construction, automation level, instrumentation, storage and site conditions.

Operating discipline that prevents most breakdowns

  • Log feed TDS, product TDS, feed pressure, product flow and reject flow daily. Trends, not single readings, are what warn you.
  • Never run the plant with pre-filters overdue — every rupee saved there costs several on the membrane.
  • Verify antiscalant dosing weekly. A dosing pump that has quietly stopped is one of the most common causes of rapid membrane scaling.
  • Ensure auto-flush is functioning. Membranes left standing in concentrate scale far faster.
  • Keep a spares kit on site for production-critical plants: cartridge filters, HP switch, dosing pump spares, and where justified a spare membrane.

Installation, commissioning and service response

Commercial buyers are buying uptime, so the commercial terms matter as much as the equipment specification. Insist on these being written into the purchase order rather than discussed verbally.

  • Site survey and feed-water analysis before the final quotation — never accept a specification produced without a water report.
  • Defined commissioning scope: civil and electrical prerequisites, who supplies what, and a documented performance test at handover.
  • Written service response times, with escalation, and clarity on whether spares are held locally.
  • Operator training and a laminated SOP left on site, so routine flushing and cartridge changes do not depend on one person.
  • Warranty terms stated separately for membranes, pumps, vessels and instrumentation, because they differ.

Why specify with us

Low total cost of ownership

High-rejection membranes, correctly sized pre-treatment and efficient pumps reduce power draw, consumable spend and reject volume. We quote five-year operating cost alongside capex, because that is the number that actually matters.

Heavy-duty SS-304 / SS-316 build

Corrosion-resistant stainless chassis and wetted parts engineered for continuous 24/7 duty, with SS-316 specified where chlorides or process chemistry demand it.

Rapid on-site servicing & AMC

Pan-India installation and service, with written response times and escalation in the AMC rather than verbal assurances — because plant downtime, not the repair, is your real cost.

Custom TDS tuning

Systems engineered against your actual water analysis — brackish groundwater, municipal supply or heavy borewell input, including high-TDS configurations for 3,000+ ppm feed.

Treatment architecture

  1. 1

    Pre-treatment module

Multigrade sand and activated carbon filtration strips suspended solids, turbidity and chlorine that would otherwise oxidise the RO membrane.

  2. 2

    Softening / antiscalant dosing

Protects membranes from calcium and magnesium scaling. On hard feed water this stage is not optional — it determines membrane life.

  3. 3

    High-pressure RO module

Heavy-duty booster pumps drive feed water through industrial spiral-wound membranes at 12-18 bar in an array sized for your recovery target.

  4. 4

    Post-treatment disinfection

UV disinfection and ozonation, with mineral dosing where potable taste and consistency matter.

  5. 5

    Microprocessor / PLC controls

Auto start-stop on tank level, dry-run protection, high and low pressure cut-offs, and timed membrane flushing — with data logging on industrial plants.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my industrial RO plant's product TDS increasing?
The most common causes are membrane degradation from oxidation (usually residual chlorine reaching the membrane because the carbon filter is exhausted), physical damage, or bypass through failed o-rings and seals. Check salt rejection stage by stage to localise it, and probe for bypass before replacing membranes — a failed seal is much cheaper to fix than a membrane set.
How often should industrial RO membranes be cleaned (CIP)?
On condition rather than on a calendar. The standard triggers are a 10-15% drop in normalised permeate flow, a 10-15% increase in normalised salt passage, or a 15% rise in stage differential pressure. Cleaning at the right point restores performance; leaving it too long makes fouling irreversible and turns a cleaning into a replacement.
Do you provide emergency RO plant repair service?
Yes — breakdown response is available across India, with priority response for sites under a comprehensive AMC with an SLA. Response times and whether critical spares are held locally vary by location, which is why we state both in writing rather than leaving them to assumption. For production-critical plants we recommend an on-site spares kit as well.
Do you offer Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC)?
Yes. Commercial installations can be covered by comprehensive AMC packages including scheduled preventive visits, membrane and cartridge replacement, and priority breakdown response. Comprehensive AMC (parts included) typically runs 10-14% of capital cost annually; non-comprehensive (labour and visits only) runs 5-8%. Get the inclusions listed line by line before signing.
Can the system integrate with our existing overhead tanks, coolers or chillers?
Yes. Commercial systems use high-pressure sensors and level-based auto start-stop, which allows plug-and-play integration with external storage tanks, water coolers and chillers. Tell us your existing tank capacity, height and any chiller model at enquiry stage so the pump head and control logic are specified correctly.
