A whole-house system and a drinking-water purifier solve different problems, and confusing them is the most expensive mistake in this category. A point-of-entry system treats every litre entering your home — showers, taps, washing machine, geyser — to fix scale, iron staining and sediment. It does not make water safe to drink.
You need one if you have the symptoms: white scale crusting taps and shower heads, geyser elements failing early, soap that will not lather, stiff laundry, or orange-brown iron staining in sinks and on clothes. Those are hardness and iron problems, and no drinking-water purifier under your sink will fix them.
Typical Indian installations run ₹25,000 to ₹90,000 depending on flow rate and whether you need softening, iron removal or both, plus salt or regeneration media as an ongoing cost. Get a lab test of your supply first — specifying this equipment from guesswork is how people end up with an expensive unit that treats the wrong problem.
