AC Price in India (2026): What Every Budget Actually Buys

Prices below are brand-store and retailer prices checked on 14 September 2026. Amazon and Flipkart are often lower in sale weeks, so treat these as the ceiling you should not pay above.

There is no new, genuine split or window air conditioner from a major brand at these prices. The cheapest new AC we found from a major brand was ₹23,590. What turns up in searches for an "AC under 10000" is usually an air cooler, a portable evaporative "mini AC" that only blows humid air, a used or refurbished unit, an accessory such as a stand or cover, or a fraudulent listing.

What these budgets can honestly buy: a good desert or tower air cooler (roughly ₹6,000-₹15,000), which works well in dry heat and poorly in humid cities; a refurbished AC from a dealer who gives a written warranty and installs it; or saving for an off-season or sale-week purchase, when 1 ton window units have dipped close to ₹22,000.

• Tonnage: each step from 1 to 1.5 to 2 ton adds roughly ₹5,000-₹15,000.
• Star rating: 5-star typically adds ₹7,000-₹15,000 over a comparable 3-star.
• Inverter over fixed-speed: about ₹4,000-₹6,000 at 1 ton.
• Wi-Fi, hot & cold, air-care filters and premium finishes.
• Brand: Carrier's and some flagship prices sit ₹12,000-₹30,000 above comparable models from other brands.

• Installation extras: additional copper pipe, outdoor stand, wall core-cut, dedicated socket.
• A stabiliser, only if your supply falls below the AC's published stabiliser-free range.
• Annual wet service before summer, and a gas top-up after any genuine leak.
• Electricity: a 1.5 ton 3-star inverter declares about 865-880 units a year at the BEE season; a 5-star about 650-700.
