Best Dash Cam for Your Car: Fitment Guide for Popular Indian Models

9 min readPublished 8 October 2026Updated

What actually differs between cars

  • Rear glass: steep hatchback glass, sedan glass with defogger lines, SUV tailgate glass far from the front — each affects where the rear camera goes and how long its cable must be.
  • Windscreen modules: many newer cars have an ADAS camera, rain sensor or auto-dimming mirror behind the rear-view mirror. The dash cam must sit beside them without blocking their view.
  • Tint: factory dark glass on 'Dark' and 'Black' editions darkens the rear camera's night picture; a Sony STARVIS rear sensor helps.
  • Power: EVs and some hybrids need EV-compatible OBD kits; the 12 V socket in some cars stays live after switch-off.

Frequently asked questions

Which dash cam is best for the Tata Nexon?
Any good front-and-rear camera fits the Nexon. For the Nexon EV use an EV-specific OBD kit for parking mode, and on ADAS variants mount the camera beside the windscreen ADAS housing.
Which dash cam is best for the Hyundai Creta?
A front-and-rear camera at 2K or better with GPS. On ADAS variants, mount it beside the windscreen camera housing, not in front of it.
Which dash cam is best for the Mahindra Thar?
A front-and-rear camera. On the hard top, fit the rear camera inside the rear glass; on a soft top, use an exterior waterproof (IP67) rear camera.
Do electric cars need a special dash cam?
Not a special camera, but parking mode needs an EV-compatible OBD kit or a hardwire kit; NEXDIGITRON and 70mai sell EV-specific OBD kits.
