What makes RO repair different in Pune
Local supply in Pune runs roughly 200-600 ppm TDS from municipal mixed sources, and the water is moderate. Those two facts change the schedule and the cost of RO repair here more than anything else does.
Pune's comparatively moderate TDS means consumables reach close to their rated life, so two service visits a year is generally sufficient and membranes commonly last 18-24 months. Do not stretch the pre-filters on that basis though — they are cheap and they are what keeps the membrane alive.
Water in Pune is comparatively moderate, so whole-house scaling is less of an issue here than in India's hard-water belt, and a separate softener is usually unnecessary.
Khadakwasla-fed areas are comfortable at 150-350 ppm. The PCMC belt, Wagholi, Hinjewadi's newer societies and Undri run substantially on borewells and tankers, where 500-700 ppm is common. Pune's winter inversion also gives it a sharper AQI season than people expect for a hill-adjacent city.
TDS and AQI figures for Pune are indicative planning ranges compiled from publicly reported CPCB and CGWB-style patterns. They are not live readings and they vary by locality, borewell depth and season. Test your own supply before making a purchase decision — water testing in Pune costs ₹300-₹2,500.
RO Repair charges in Pune
Indicative market rates, useful for sanity-checking any quote you receive. Providers in the same city routinely differ by 40-60% on identical work, which is the whole reason to collect more than one.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Indicative total cost |
|---|---|---|
| No water at all | Inlet valve closed, no power, SMPS failure, or Pureit safety lock | ₹0 - ₹1,400 |
| Very slow flow | Clogged sediment or carbon filter, low input pressure, fouled membrane | ₹150 - ₹3,500 |
| Water tastes or smells bad | Exhausted carbon filter or biofilm in the storage tank | ₹250 - ₹800 |
| Output TDS has risen | Degraded membrane or a seal bypassing the membrane | ₹1,200 - ₹3,500 |
| Purifier runs continuously | Faulty float valve, leaking tank, or failed auto-cut-off | ₹400 - ₹1,500 |
| Leaking from a housing | Perished or crushed o-ring, or an over-tightened housing | ₹100 - ₹500 |
| Noisy pump | Air lock, worn pump, or the pump running dry | ₹1,200 - ₹2,500 |
| UV indicator off | Failed UV lamp or ballast | ₹500 - ₹1,800 |

What's included in RO repair
This is the scope we ask providers to quote against. Holding every quote to the same list is what makes them comparable — otherwise you are choosing the cheapest number rather than the best value.
- On-site diagnosis with input and output TDS measured and recorded before anything is quoted.
- Operating pressure check and pre-filter condition assessment.
- Leak inspection across all housings, joints and the reject line.
- Auto-cut-off and float valve verification, so the unit is not running continuously.
- A written quote for parts before replacement, with old parts shown to you afterwards.
- Post-repair verification: system pressurised, output TDS re-measured, joints re-checked.
Not included
- Replacement parts, which are quoted separately and confirmed by you before fitting.
- Repairs on units whose spares have been discontinued by the manufacturer.
How it works
- 1Tell us what you needOne short form — your city, the job, and how soon you need it. Takes under a minute and costs nothing.
- 2We match you with local providersWe route your request to up to 3 verified providers who actually cover your area, so you are not waiting on someone forty kilometres away.
- 3Compare the quotesThey contact you directly, usually by WhatsApp so you get it in writing. Check what you are quoted against the indicative rates published on this page.
- 4Book whoever you wantYou deal with the provider directly and pay them for the work. There is no obligation to accept any quote.
Check these five things before booking anyone
- Is the inlet tap fully open? A partly closed inlet valve is the single most common 'fault' technicians attend.
- Is the socket live and the adaptor LED on? Test the socket with something else before assuming the unit failed.
- Is building water pressure adequate? Most RO units need roughly 5 psi and will not start below it — common on upper floors.
- When did you last change the sediment filter? A clogged pre-filter mimics almost every flow-related fault.
- Is it a Pureit that stopped completely? The germkill kit has almost certainly expired and engaged the safety lock. That is designed behaviour, not a breakdown.
Important
How to avoid paying for a membrane you did not need
Ask the technician to measure input TDS and output TDS, and to write both on the slip, before he recommends anything. The membrane's entire job is the gap between those two numbers. If input is 600 ppm and output is 90 ppm, the membrane is rejecting 85% and is fine — whatever its age, and whatever the indicator light says.
A membrane genuinely needs replacing when output TDS has climbed toward input over successive readings, which is why keeping a simple log matters. Date, input TDS, output TDS, parts replaced, amount paid. Households that keep one are noticeably harder to overcharge, because a vague diagnosis has to survive contact with a record.
When a repair stops making sense
A purifier is worth repairing when the fault is a consumable, a pump, an SMPS, a valve or a lamp. All of those are individually replaceable at modest cost on any mainstream unit, and none of them says anything about the machine's remaining life.
Replacement starts to make more sense when the unit is over eight to ten years old and needs a membrane plus pump plus tank together, when spares for the model have been discontinued, or when the tank holds a persistent smell that sanitisation does not clear. At that point you are spending half the price of a new purifier on a machine with limited life left. A good technician will tell you this; ask directly if he does not.
What "verified" means for providers in Pune
It is a specific claim, so here is exactly what it covers. Every provider on this network has:
- Government photo ID and address verified at onboarding
- Business registration or GST number on file where applicable
- References checked from at least three completed jobs
- Agreed to publish itemised pricing before starting work
- Agreed to record input and output TDS on every service slip
- Removed from the network after two unresolved customer complaints
Verification covers identity, registration and references. It is not a guarantee of workmanship on any individual job, and we are not a party to the contract between you and the provider — you engage and pay them directly. If a job goes wrong, tell us: providers are removed from the network after two unresolved complaints.
