A commercial RO plant is an engineered system, not an appliance, and the difference shows up in how it should be bought. The correct sequence is: analyse the feed water, calculate peak-hour demand, design the pre-treatment train around the water chemistry, then size the membrane array. Any quotation that arrives before step one is a price for equipment rather than a solution to your problem.

The most expensive mistakes in this category are all made at specification stage. Undersizing against peak demand rather than daily average, so the plant meets its nameplate rating and still runs dry mid-morning. Skimping on pre-treatment, so membranes that should last three years foul in eight months. Ignoring hardness, so an antiscalant dosing system that would have cost ₹40,000 is absent and ₹1,80,000 of membranes scale up instead.

What we do is straightforward: collect your requirement and your water report, and route it to commercial suppliers in your city so you receive engineered quotations that are actually comparable — same capacity basis, same itemisation, same scope.

Commercial RO Installation charges in India

Indicative market rates for sanity-checking a quote. Pricing for identical work varies by 40-60% between providers in the same city, which is why collecting more than one quote is worth the two minutes it takes.

What's included in commercial RO installation

This is the scope we ask providers to quote against. Holding every quote to the same list is what makes them comparable — otherwise you are choosing the cheapest number rather than the best value.

  • Site survey covering feed-water source, available space, power and drainage.
  • Feed-water analysis, or review of your existing lab report.
  • Peak-hour demand calculation, not just daily average.
  • System design — pre-treatment train, membrane array, storage and distribution.
  • Itemised quotation naming membrane make and model, pump, vessels and instrumentation.
  • Supply, installation, piping, electrical connection and commissioning.
  • Performance validation on handover with recorded feed and permeate readings.
  • Operator training and a documented operating and maintenance schedule.

Not included

  • Civil work — plant room construction, plinths, drainage modification.
  • Electrical supply up to the plant room, and any transformer or DG capacity upgrade.
  • Statutory approvals and BIS certification where you are packaging water for sale.

How it works

How capacity should actually be calculated

Start with consumption, then convert to peak. An office typically plans on 3-5 litres of drinking water per person per day; a housing society on 5-8 litres per resident; a hotel on 15-25 litres per occupied room including F&B. That gives you daily volume.

The number that sizes the plant, though, is peak-hour draw. Offices concentrate consumption around mid-morning and post-lunch; societies peak sharply in the early morning and evening; schools empty their tanks at two break times. A 1,000 LPD requirement with a three-hour effective draw window is not a 100 LPH plant — it is closer to a 250 LPH plant, or a 100 LPH plant with substantially more treated storage.

Storage is the cheap lever here. Adding buffer storage is far less expensive per litre than adding membrane capacity, and for most commercial sites the right answer is a moderately sized plant running longer hours into adequate storage rather than a large plant running in short bursts.

Important

Be sceptical of any quotation issued without a feed-water analysis. Membrane selection, pre-treatment design, recovery ratio and expected membrane life all follow from the water chemistry. A supplier who quotes on headcount alone is selling you a standard skid and hoping.

Pre-treatment is where plants succeed or fail

  • Multi-grade sand filter — removes suspended solids. Non-negotiable on any groundwater feed.
  • Activated carbon filter — removes chlorine, which oxidises polyamide membranes. Non-negotiable on municipal feed.
  • Water softener — required above roughly 200 ppm hardness, or you will scale the membranes.
  • Antiscalant dosing — standard on high-hardness and high-silica feeds; far cheaper than the membranes it protects.
  • Micron cartridge filtration — the final guard, typically 5 micron, immediately ahead of the high-pressure pump.
  • SMBS dosing where chlorine is present and carbon alone is not sufficient assurance.

Comparing quotations properly

Insist every quotation itemises the same things, or you will end up comparing a complete system against a partial one and choosing the partial one because it is cheaper. The lines that matter: membrane make, model and quantity; high-pressure pump make; pressure vessel material; every pre-treatment stage; instrumentation (conductivity meter, pressure gauges, flow meters); control panel specification; and the recovery ratio the design targets.

Then ask three questions that separate suppliers quickly. What recovery ratio does this design achieve on my feed water, and what happens to the reject? What is the expected membrane life given my hardness, and what does a replacement set cost? And what is your AMC rate, quoted now rather than after installation — because a low capex with an expensive captive AMC is a common structure and it is worth seeing whole.

Commercial RO Installation by city

Local water chemistry and air quality change both the schedule and the cost, so each city page carries advice specific to that city rather than a swapped name.

What "verified" means

It is a specific claim, so here is exactly what it covers. Every provider on this network has:

  • Government photo ID and address verified at onboarding
  • Business registration or GST number on file where applicable
  • References checked from at least three completed jobs
  • Agreed to publish itemised pricing before starting work
  • Agreed to record input and output TDS on every service slip
  • Removed from the network after two unresolved customer complaints

Verification covers identity, registration and references. It is not a guarantee of workmanship on any individual job, and we are not a party to the contract between you and the provider — you engage and pay them directly. If a job goes wrong, tell us: providers are removed from the network after two unresolved complaints.

Commercial RO Installation — FAQs

How much does a commercial RO plant cost?
Indicatively: 100 LPH ₹55,000-₹1,10,000; 250 LPH ₹1,10,000-₹2,20,000; 500 LPH ₹1,80,000-₹3,50,000; 1,000 LPH ₹3,00,000-₹6,00,000; 2,000 LPH ₹5,50,000-₹11,00,000. The spread within each band is driven mainly by feed-water chemistry, since that determines how much pre-treatment the system needs.
What capacity RO plant do I need for my office?
Plan on 3-5 litres per person per day, then size for peak-hour draw rather than daily average. An office of 150 people needs roughly 600-750 litres a day, but if most of it is drawn in a three-hour window you need either a 250 LPH plant or a 100 LPH plant with substantially more treated storage. Storage is the cheaper of the two levers.
How long does commercial RO installation take?
Two to six weeks from order, depending on capacity and whether the skid is standard or built to order. Standard plants up to 500 LPH are often available in two to three weeks; larger and custom systems take longer. On-site installation and commissioning itself is typically two to five days once civil and electrical readiness is complete.
Do I need a water test before buying a commercial RO plant?
Yes, and treat its absence as a warning sign. Feed-water chemistry determines membrane selection, the entire pre-treatment train, achievable recovery ratio and expected membrane life. A supplier quoting without it is pricing a standard skid rather than designing a system, and the cost of that shows up as fouled membranes within the first year.
What is the running cost of a commercial RO plant?
Three components: power (roughly 1-2 kWh per 1,000 litres depending on feed pressure), consumables (cartridges, antiscalant, softener salt), and membrane replacement amortised over two to four years. AMC typically runs 8-12% of capex annually. Our TCO calculator models the whole picture over a plant's life.
Which cities do you cover for commercial RO installation?
India's metro cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad — plus the NCR and MMR satellites Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Thane, Navi Mumbai, which share the same technician supply pool. We publish a city only where we can genuinely route your request to providers who will call back, which is why the list is deliberately shorter than the 200 cities we cover editorially.
Is it free to get commercial RO installation quotes?
Yes. You pay the provider directly for the work they do, and never us for the introduction. There is no obligation to accept any quote and no cancellation charge, because nothing is committed until you engage a provider yourself.
