5G Phones in India: What to Check Before Buying
How 5G works in India
5G in India is offered mainly by Jio and Airtel, with coverage across most cities and expanding into towns. Phones connect to specific frequency bands, and a phone that supports more of the bands your operator uses will generally get better 5G coverage.
Cheap 5G versus a better 4G phone
At the lowest prices, a 5G modem can be paired with a weaker processor, display or camera. If a similar-price 4G phone is clearly better in daily use and you rarely rely on high-speed mobile data, it can be the better buy — though a 5G phone will keep more resale and future value as networks mature.
What to check
- The list of supported 5G bands on the official specification page.
- Whether both SIM slots support 5G, if you use two SIMs.
- Whether the phone supports eSIM, if your operator offers it.
