We compare 55 dash cams from 13 brands sold in India — 27 front-only cameras, 22 two-channel (front and rear, or front and cabin) and 6 three-channel cameras with a cabin view — priced from ₹1,899 to ₹39,999. Prices come from each brand's own India store (70mai through its importer NEXDIGITRON, Qubo, Crossbeats) or, for brands with no Indian store, from the Flipkart listing, on the date shown on each model. Every photo is the maker's or the listing's own.

Three decisions matter far more than the brand, in this order. First, how many angles you need: a front camera settles who hit whom ahead of you, a front-and-rear camera adds the rear-end shunts that are just as common in Indian traffic, and a three-channel camera adds the cabin — essential for cab drivers. Second, the image sensor and resolution: a Sony STARVIS sensor at 2K or better is what makes a number plate readable at night. Third, how the camera survives heat and parking: a supercapacitor instead of a lithium battery, and whether parking mode needs a separate hardwire or OBD kit.

India-specific advice that the spec sheets leave out: a parked car's dashboard passes 70 °C in summer, which is why 20 of the cameras here use a supercapacitor; continuous recording wears out ordinary memory cards within months, so buy a high-endurance card; and a dash cam is legal to fit in India and its footage is accepted for police complaints and insurance claims.

How we rank: scores are calculated from each camera's published specifications — resolution, sensor, number of channels, supercapacitor or battery, GPS, Wi-Fi, ADAS, parking mode and the brand's support in India — and are never set by hand. Nobody at BestPurifier has road-tested these cameras, and every product page says so.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best dash cam in India in 2026?
For most private cars, a front-and-rear dash cam with a Sony STARVIS sensor at 2K or better, built-in GPS and a supercapacitor. Use the channel, budget and feature pages to see the top-scoring camera in each group — the right choice for a cab driver (three channels with a cabin camera) is different from a city commuter's.
Is a dash cam legal in India?
Yes. No Indian law prohibits a dash cam in a private car, and its footage is regularly accepted in police complaints, motor-accident claims and insurance claims. Mount it where it does not block your view — behind the rear-view mirror — and be careful about posting other people's faces and number plates online.
Front-only or front and rear dash cam?
Front and rear if your budget allows. Rear-end collisions in slow traffic are among the commonest road disputes in India, and a front-only camera cannot record them. A front-only camera is still far better than none.
Why does a supercapacitor matter in India?
A dash cam lives on the windscreen of a car that is often parked in the sun. Lithium batteries swell and degrade in that heat; supercapacitors tolerate it. For Indian summers it is the most important spec that the price does not show.
How much does a good dash cam cost in India?
In our catalogue, from ₹1,899 to ₹39,999. A good front camera costs ₹3,000–₹6,000, a good front-and-rear camera with GPS ₹6,000–₹14,000, and 4K front-and-rear or three-channel cameras ₹10,000–₹40,000. Add a high-endurance memory card (about ₹1,000–₹4,000 depending on size) and, for parking mode, a hardwire or OBD kit (₹1,800–₹3,200 from the brands' own stores).
Does a dash cam drain the car battery?
Not while driving. In parking mode a hardwired camera draws a small current from the car battery; a hardwire or OBD kit with a low-voltage cut-off switches it off before the battery gets too low to start the car.
Which memory card is best for a dash cam?
A high-endurance microSD card rated for continuous recording (U3/V30), sized to the camera — 64 GB for 1080p, 128 GB for 2K or front-and-rear, 256 GB for 4K or three channels. Ordinary cards fail within months of constant overwriting.
Can dash cam footage be used for insurance claims?
Yes. Clear footage with the time, date and (with GPS) speed stamped on it makes a third-party fault easy to establish and speeds up the claim. Lock the clip immediately, download it to your phone and keep the original file unedited.
