Set expectations before the rankings, because this is the price band where they are most often wrong. A sub-₹1,000 electric shaver is a touch-up device. It will clear a day, perhaps two, of light stubble and leave you looking tidy. It will not deliver a bald finish, it will not clear a week of coarse growth, and asking it to will produce pulling rather than cutting. That is not a defect — it is what a small motor and a two-blade head cost.
Used as intended, the good ones are genuinely useful. The VGR V-390 at ₹799 is a pocket-sized metal foil shaver with Type-C charging — small enough to live in a laptop bag, and a foil head gives a closer touch-up than any rotary at this price. It is the right answer for travel, an office drawer or a car, and it is the best thing in the sub-₹1,000 shaver category.
If a sub-₹1,000 shaver is meant to be your only shaver, spend more. The Havells RS9101 at ₹1,399 adds 3D floating rotary heads, a pop-up trimmer, a two-year warranty and a national service network — enough for daily stubble cleanup. And the Philips Series 3000 at ₹3,299 is the first genuinely good electric shaver in India, with four-direction flexing heads, full washability and wet-and-dry use. The gap between ₹800 and ₹3,300 is large and real.
