ETP and STP projects are compliance projects. Unlike a drinking-water RO, where the buyer sets the specification, here the specification is set by your state pollution control board's consent conditions — discharge standards for BOD, COD, TSS, pH, oil and grease, and increasingly a zero-liquid-discharge requirement for specific industries.

So the sequence matters. Establish your consent conditions and effluent characteristics first, then design. Buying equipment before you know your discharge limits is how facilities end up with a plant that cannot meet the standard it was bought to satisfy.

For housing societies, STPs are frequently mandated by building approval conditions above a threshold size, with treated water reused for landscaping and flushing. For industry, ETP design varies enormously by sector — textile dyeing effluent, pharmaceutical effluent, plating effluent and food-processing effluent need fundamentally different treatment trains.

What determines ETP cost

  • Effluent volume and load — flow in m³/day and the BOD/COD load, which together drive tank volumes and aeration capacity.
  • Discharge standard — reuse-grade or ZLD requirements add tertiary treatment, RO and evaporation, multiplying cost over simple discharge compliance.
  • Industry type — textile dyeing (colour and high TDS), pharma (COD and toxicity), plating (heavy metals) and food processing (organic load) each need different trains.
  • Technology — conventional activated sludge, SBR, MBBR or MBR, each with different footprint, capex and operating complexity.
  • Sludge handling — dewatering and authorised disposal is an ongoing cost that is routinely underestimated at purchase.

Important

Confirm your state pollution control board consent conditions before finalising any ETP or STP design. Discharge standards, monitoring obligations and ZLD applicability vary by state and by industry category, and a plant designed to the wrong standard is a compliance liability.

Installation, commissioning and service response

Commercial buyers are buying uptime, so the commercial terms matter as much as the equipment specification. Insist on these being written into the purchase order rather than discussed verbally.

  • Site survey and feed-water analysis before the final quotation — never accept a specification produced without a water report.
  • Defined commissioning scope: civil and electrical prerequisites, who supplies what, and a documented performance test at handover.
  • Written service response times, with escalation, and clarity on whether spares are held locally.
  • Operator training and a laminated SOP left on site, so routine flushing and cartridge changes do not depend on one person.
  • Warranty terms stated separately for membranes, pumps, vessels and instrumentation, because they differ.

What a quotation includes

  • Effluent characterisation and review of consent conditions
  • Process design: primary, secondary (biological) and tertiary treatment as required
  • Equipment supply, civil interface drawings and erection
  • Commissioning with discharge-parameter performance testing
  • Operator training and compliance documentation support
  • AMC including sludge handling and consumables

Why specify with us

Low total cost of ownership

High-rejection membranes, correctly sized pre-treatment and efficient pumps reduce power draw, consumable spend and reject volume. We quote five-year operating cost alongside capex, because that is the number that actually matters.

Heavy-duty SS-304 / SS-316 build

Corrosion-resistant stainless chassis and wetted parts engineered for continuous 24/7 duty, with SS-316 specified where chlorides or process chemistry demand it.

Rapid on-site servicing & AMC

Pan-India installation and service, with written response times and escalation in the AMC rather than verbal assurances — because plant downtime, not the repair, is your real cost.

Custom TDS tuning

Systems engineered against your actual water analysis — brackish groundwater, municipal supply or heavy borewell input, including high-TDS configurations for 3,000+ ppm feed.

Treatment architecture

  1. 1

    Pre-treatment module

Multigrade sand and activated carbon filtration strips suspended solids, turbidity and chlorine that would otherwise oxidise the RO membrane.

  2. 2

    Softening / antiscalant dosing

Protects membranes from calcium and magnesium scaling. On hard feed water this stage is not optional — it determines membrane life.

  3. 3

    High-pressure RO module

Heavy-duty booster pumps drive feed water through industrial spiral-wound membranes at 12-18 bar in an array sized for your recovery target.

  4. 4

    Post-treatment disinfection

UV disinfection and ozonation, with mineral dosing where potable taste and consistency matter.

  5. 5

    Microprocessor / PLC controls

Auto start-stop on tank level, dry-run protection, high and low pressure cut-offs, and timed membrane flushing — with data logging on industrial plants.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an ETP plant cost in India?
Indicatively ₹5 lakh for a small low-load unit up to ₹1 crore or more for a large industrial ETP with tertiary treatment and ZLD. Cost is driven by effluent volume, organic and chemical load, your mandated discharge standard, industry type and the technology selected. Because the standard is set by your pollution control board consent, that document is the starting point for any credible quotation.
Is an STP mandatory for housing societies in India?
In most states, yes above a threshold size — typically defined by built-up area or number of dwelling units, with the requirement imposed as a building approval or environmental clearance condition, and treated water usually required to be reused for flushing and landscaping. Thresholds and standards vary by state, so verify with your local authority and pollution control board.
What is the typical lead time for commercial installation?
Standard commercial systems from 100 to 500 LPH are typically installed within 48-72 hours of site readiness, since they are skid-built and largely pre-assembled. Custom industrial plants generally need 7-14 days depending on site readiness, civil work, electrical provisioning and whether non-standard materials such as SS-316 wetted parts are specified.
Do you offer Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC)?
Yes. Commercial installations can be covered by comprehensive AMC packages including scheduled preventive visits, membrane and cartridge replacement, and priority breakdown response. Comprehensive AMC (parts included) typically runs 10-14% of capital cost annually; non-comprehensive (labour and visits only) runs 5-8%. Get the inclusions listed line by line before signing.
