Installation looks like the trivial part of buying a water purifier, and it is the part that quietly decides your running cost for the next five years. A rushed fit that skips the TDS baseline, sets the TDS controller at minimum, buries the reject line in an inaccessible drain and leaves a crushed o-ring behind the housing will cost you water, money and a service call within the month.

The work itself is not complicated. A wall-mounted RO needs an earthed socket, an inlet tee with a shut-off valve, a drain path for reject water and a wall that will take fixings. What separates a good installer from a bad one is the handover: whether he pressurises the system fully and checks every joint before leaving, whether he shows you the TDS readings, and whether he writes the filter-change dates down.

Charges vary more than they should for identical work. Getting two or three quotes for the same job in the same city routinely surfaces a 40-60% spread, which is why we send your requirement to multiple providers rather than one.

What's included in RO installation

This is the scope we ask providers to quote against. Holding every quote to the same list is what makes them comparable — otherwise you are choosing the cheapest number rather than the best value.

  • Site survey — inlet point, drain path, power and mounting position confirmed before drilling.
  • Wall bracket mounting, or under-sink placement with a separate drinking-water faucet.
  • Inlet tee-off with a dedicated shut-off valve, so you can isolate the unit during a leak.
  • Reject-water line routed to a drain or to a collection point you can actually reach.
  • Full pressurisation and leak check on every joint with the tank filled — not a dry check.
  • Input and output TDS measured in front of you and written on the installation slip.
  • TDS controller set so output lands in the 60-120 ppm range rather than at minimum.
  • Filter-change due dates written down, and a demonstration of how to shut the unit off.

Not included

  • The purifier itself, and any booster pump needed for low-pressure supply.
  • Civil work — core drilling through structural walls, new drain lines, tiling repair.
  • Extended piping beyond roughly 3 metres from the inlet point.

How it works

  1. 1Tell us what you needOne short form — your city, the job, and how soon you need it. Takes under a minute and costs nothing.
  2. 2We match you with local providersWe route your request to up to 3 verified providers who actually cover your area, so you are not waiting on someone forty kilometres away.
  3. 3Compare the quotesThey contact you directly, usually by WhatsApp so you get it in writing. Check what you are quoted against the indicative rates published on this page.
  4. 4Book whoever you wantYou deal with the provider directly and pay them for the work. There is no obligation to accept any quote.

What your site needs before the technician arrives

  • An earthed power socket within roughly 1.5 metres of the mounting position.
  • A water inlet point — usually a tee-off from the kitchen tap line — with a shut-off valve.
  • A drain path for reject water, or a bucket position if you intend to reuse it.
  • Wall space that will take fixings, with clearance to open the filter housings for service.
  • For under-sink: roughly 40 × 25 × 45 cm of clear cabinet space plus withdrawal clearance, and a power point inside or near the cabinet.
  • Minimum input pressure of around 5 psi. Below that the pump will not start and you need a booster.

Tip

Measure the gap where the purifier will go before the technician arrives, including the clearance needed to unscrew the filter housings. A unit that fits the wall but cannot be serviced without unmounting it is a five-year annoyance.

The handover checklist — do not let the technician leave without this

  • Input TDS and output TDS measured in front of you and recorded on the slip.
  • TDS controller setting explained, with output confirmed in the 60-120 ppm band.
  • Reject line route shown, and a bucket or drum arranged if you plan to reuse the water.
  • Every housing checked for leaks with the system running under full pressure.
  • Filter-change due dates written down and put in your phone calendar — indicator lights are timers, not sensors.
  • Warranty card completed with model, serial number and installation date.
  • A demonstration of how to shut the unit off at the inlet valve in case of a leak.

Why we send your job to more than one provider

Installation is priced by the technician, not by a rate card, and the spread on identical work within a single city is routinely 40-60%. The household that accepts the first number quoted is not usually getting a bad installer — it is simply paying more than the household that asked twice.

There is a quality dimension too. When a provider knows the customer has other quotes, the handover tends to get done properly, because the review that follows is worth more to him than the twenty minutes he saves by skipping the pressure test.

RO Installation by city

Local water chemistry and air quality change both the schedule and the cost, so each city page carries advice specific to that city rather than a swapped name.

What "verified" means

It is a specific claim, so here is exactly what it covers. Every provider on this network has:

  • Government photo ID and address verified at onboarding
  • Business registration or GST number on file where applicable
  • References checked from at least three completed jobs
  • Agreed to publish itemised pricing before starting work
  • Agreed to record input and output TDS on every service slip
  • Removed from the network after two unresolved customer complaints

Verification covers identity, registration and references. It is not a guarantee of workmanship on any individual job, and we are not a party to the contract between you and the provider — you engage and pay them directly. If a job goes wrong, tell us: providers are removed from the network after two unresolved complaints.

What you get from us

  • Free to useYou pay the provider for the work, never us for the introduction.
  • Compare before you commitMultiple quotes for the same job, so you can see the spread.
  • Indicative rates publishedEvery page shows what the job should cost, so you can sanity-check any quote.
  • No obligationTake a quote or leave it. There is no cancellation charge because there is nothing to cancel.

RO Installation — FAQs

What are RO installation charges?
Installation is usually free when bundled with a new purifier from a mainstream brand. As a standalone service, expect ₹500-₹1,200 for a wall-mounted RO, ₹300-₹700 for a counter-top unit, ₹1,200-₹2,500 for an under-sink installation with a separate faucet, and ₹1,500-₹3,000 for direct-piping. Relocating an existing unit costs ₹500-₹1,500.
How long does RO installation take?
A wall-mounted RO takes 45-90 minutes including the pressure test. Counter-top units take 30-45 minutes. Under-sink installations with a separate faucet take 2-3 hours and direct-piping systems 2-4 hours, because both are genuine plumbing rather than a bracket and two tubes.
Can I install a water purifier myself?
Counter-top and gravity units, yes — they need no permanent fitting. A wall-mounted RO is possible if you are comfortable drilling and cutting a plumbing tee, but self-installation commonly voids warranty, and an incorrectly seated membrane or crushed o-ring can produce water that looks purified while partly bypassing the membrane. Since installation is usually free with purchase, there is little upside.
What should the output TDS be after installation?
Between 60 and 120 ppm for most households. Below about 40 ppm the water tastes flat and you have stripped minerals unnecessarily, which is what happens when a technician sets the TDS controller at minimum to make the meter reading look impressive. Ask for the controller to be adjusted and the output re-measured before he leaves.
Do I need a booster pump for my RO?
Only if your input pressure is below roughly 5 psi, which is common on upper floors of older buildings and on gravity-fed overhead tanks with little head. The symptom is a purifier that runs but fills the tank very slowly or trips its low-pressure switch. A booster pump adds ₹800-₹2,000 to the installation.
Which cities do you cover for RO installation?
India's metro cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad — plus the NCR and MMR satellites Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Thane, Navi Mumbai, which share the same technician supply pool. We publish a city only where we can genuinely route your request to providers who will call back, which is why the list is deliberately shorter than the 200 cities we cover editorially.
Is it free to get RO installation quotes?
Yes. You pay the provider directly for the work they do, and never us for the introduction. There is no obligation to accept any quote and no cancellation charge, because nothing is committed until you engage a provider yourself.
