Myth vs fact
Common purifier claims checked against BIS, WHO, EN 1822 and AHAM standards or against the underlying physics — each with a stated verdict, the grain of truth it rests on, and an explicit note on what the page does not establish.

Purifier marketing in India runs on claims that are technically true and materially misleading. A TDS meter really does show a high number. A HEPA filter really is rated at 0.3 microns. Ozone really does occur naturally. Each of those facts is then attached to a conclusion it does not support, and the conclusion is what sells the product.
That structure is what makes these claims hard to argue with in a showroom, and it is why every page here is built the same way: state the claim as people state it, give the verdict, show the reasoning step by step, and then find the true thing underneath.
The last part matters more than it looks. Somebody repeating 'HEPA can't catch anything below 0.3 microns' has read a real specification and drawn a wrong inference from it. Telling them the number is fake would be false; telling them it is a minimum rather than a cutoff is both true and useful.

False, and it is the most consequential false belief in Indian water treatment. A TDS meter passes a current through water and infers dissolved mass from conductivity.

Mostly false, and the exceptions are not trivia. RO rejects dissolved salts, most metals, fluoride, nitrate and hardness very effectively.

It depends, and the honest answer is more useful than either simple one. Within a given unit, higher fan speed does deliver more clean air per hour — CADR scales roughly with airflow, so the physics supports the claim.

False. CADR is measured in a sealed test chamber under ANSI/AHAM AC-1, and it describes what a unit does to the volume of air it is circulating.

Mostly false, and dangerously so in specific cases. A rolling boil for one minute inactivates bacteria, viruses and protozoa completely — for microbiological risk, boiling is the correct emergency response and it is free.

False, and it is the most under-recognised failure in Indian water treatment. The visible glow from a UV lamp comes from a different part of the spectrum than the germicidal UV-C output that does the disinfection.

It depends on the pollutant, and the split is instructive. For outdoor-origin particulate, indoor concentrations track outdoor ones closely unless you actively filter — homes are not sealed, and infiltration continues through gaps whether windows are open or not.
