Most water purifier faults have a short list of likely causes, and a surprising number are not faults at all. A partly closed inlet valve, a dead socket, a clogged sediment filter or an expired Pureit germkill kit account for a large share of the calls technicians attend, and each of those is either free to fix or costs a few hundred rupees.

Knowing which is which before you book has two benefits. You occasionally solve it yourself in five minutes, and when you cannot, you can describe the symptom accurately enough that the technician arrives with the correct part rather than returning tomorrow.

The other thing worth knowing is where the money leaks. Membrane replacement is the most expensive routine part on a domestic RO and the most frequently recommended when it is not needed. Ask for input and output TDS to be measured and written down before agreeing to it. If output is still low relative to input, the membrane is doing its job.

Indicative market rates for sanity-checking a quote. Pricing for identical work varies by 40-60% between providers in the same city, which is why collecting more than one quote is worth the two minutes it takes.

What's included in RO repair

This is the scope we ask providers to quote against. Holding every quote to the same list is what makes them comparable — otherwise you are choosing the cheapest number rather than the best value.

  • On-site diagnosis with input and output TDS measured and recorded before anything is quoted.
  • Operating pressure check and pre-filter condition assessment.
  • Leak inspection across all housings, joints and the reject line.
  • Auto-cut-off and float valve verification, so the unit is not running continuously.
  • A written quote for parts before replacement, with old parts shown to you afterwards.
  • Post-repair verification: system pressurised, output TDS re-measured, joints re-checked.

Not included

  • Replacement parts, which are quoted separately and confirmed by you before fitting.
  • Repairs on units whose spares have been discontinued by the manufacturer.

How it works

  1. 1Tell us what you needOne short form — your city, the job, and how soon you need it. Takes under a minute and costs nothing.
  2. 2We match you with local providersWe route your request to up to 3 verified providers who actually cover your area, so you are not waiting on someone forty kilometres away.
  3. 3Compare the quotesThey contact you directly, usually by WhatsApp so you get it in writing. Check what you are quoted against the indicative rates published on this page.
  4. 4Book whoever you wantYou deal with the provider directly and pay them for the work. There is no obligation to accept any quote.

Check these five things before booking anyone

  • Is the inlet tap fully open? A partly closed inlet valve is the single most common 'fault' technicians attend.
  • Is the socket live and the adaptor LED on? Test the socket with something else before assuming the unit failed.
  • Is building water pressure adequate? Most RO units need roughly 5 psi and will not start below it — common on upper floors.
  • When did you last change the sediment filter? A clogged pre-filter mimics almost every flow-related fault.
  • Is it a Pureit that stopped completely? The germkill kit has almost certainly expired and engaged the safety lock. That is designed behaviour, not a breakdown.

Important

Switch the unit off at the socket and close the inlet valve before opening any housing. Do not over-tighten housings on reassembly — a crushed o-ring is the most common cause of a leak that appears the day after a service.

How to avoid paying for a membrane you did not need

Ask the technician to measure input TDS and output TDS, and to write both on the slip, before he recommends anything. The membrane's entire job is the gap between those two numbers. If input is 600 ppm and output is 90 ppm, the membrane is rejecting 85% and is fine — whatever its age, and whatever the indicator light says.

A membrane genuinely needs replacing when output TDS has climbed toward input over successive readings, which is why keeping a simple log matters. Date, input TDS, output TDS, parts replaced, amount paid. Households that keep one are noticeably harder to overcharge, because a vague diagnosis has to survive contact with a record.

When a repair stops making sense

A purifier is worth repairing when the fault is a consumable, a pump, an SMPS, a valve or a lamp. All of those are individually replaceable at modest cost on any mainstream unit, and none of them says anything about the machine's remaining life.

Replacement starts to make more sense when the unit is over eight to ten years old and needs a membrane plus pump plus tank together, when spares for the model have been discontinued, or when the tank holds a persistent smell that sanitisation does not clear. At that point you are spending half the price of a new purifier on a machine with limited life left. A good technician will tell you this; ask directly if he does not.

RO Repair by city

Local water chemistry and air quality change both the schedule and the cost, so each city page carries advice specific to that city rather than a swapped name.

What "verified" means

It is a specific claim, so here is exactly what it covers. Every provider on this network has:

  • Government photo ID and address verified at onboarding
  • Business registration or GST number on file where applicable
  • References checked from at least three completed jobs
  • Agreed to publish itemised pricing before starting work
  • Agreed to record input and output TDS on every service slip
  • Removed from the network after two unresolved customer complaints

Verification covers identity, registration and references. It is not a guarantee of workmanship on any individual job, and we are not a party to the contract between you and the provider — you engage and pay them directly. If a job goes wrong, tell us: providers are removed from the network after two unresolved complaints.

RO Repair — FAQs

How much does RO repair cost?
A diagnostic visit costs ₹350-₹700 for labour, with parts on top. Common outcomes: o-ring or housing leak ₹100-₹500, carbon filter for bad taste ₹250-₹800, float valve or auto-cut-off ₹400-₹1,500, SMPS or adaptor ₹600-₹1,400, pump ₹1,200-₹2,500, membrane ₹1,200-₹3,500. Most repairs land under ₹1,500 in total.
Why is my water purifier not giving water?
In order of likelihood: the inlet valve is partly or fully closed, no power is reaching the unit, input pressure is below the minimum the pump needs, the sediment pre-filter is completely clogged, or the SMPS has failed. If it is a Pureit that stopped abruptly, the germkill kit has expired and the safety lock has engaged by design — that needs a kit, not a repair.
Why is my RO purifier leaking?
Most commonly a perished or crushed o-ring in a filter housing, frequently after a recent service where the housing was over-tightened. Other causes are a cracked housing, a loose push-fit tube connection, or a failed tank bladder. Close the inlet valve, switch off the power, and identify which joint is wet before booking — it makes the repair considerably faster.
Can I get same-day RO repair?
In the metros, usually yes for a morning booking, and next-day for evening requests. Availability depends on your locality and the day — weekends and the first working day after a long weekend are the tightest. Tell us if it is urgent and we will prioritise providers with same-day capacity in your area.
How do I know if the technician is overcharging me?
Ask for input and output TDS readings before any part is recommended, and ask to see the old parts after they are removed. Compare quoted part prices against the indicative ranges on this page. Be sceptical when several parts are declared faulty at once — genuine simultaneous failures are rare — and never agree to a membrane replacement without seeing the TDS numbers.
Which cities do you cover for RO repair?
India's metro cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad — plus the NCR and MMR satellites Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Thane, Navi Mumbai, which share the same technician supply pool. We publish a city only where we can genuinely route your request to providers who will call back, which is why the list is deliberately shorter than the 200 cities we cover editorially.
Is it free to get RO repair quotes?
Yes. You pay the provider directly for the work they do, and never us for the introduction. There is no obligation to accept any quote and no cancellation charge, because nothing is committed until you engage a provider yourself.
