Get the AMC on paper or as an emailed confirmation with the inclusion list attached. Verbal terms agreed at the door are the source of nearly every dispute in this category, and the disputed item is nearly always the membrane.

When an AMC is not worth it

If you are genuinely disciplined about filter changes and comfortable buying and fitting parts yourself, paying per visit is cheaper.
On a gravity or non-electric purifier, where the only consumable is a germkill kit you can fit in five minutes.
On a purifier over eight to ten years old, where the money is better put towards a replacement.
If the quoted comprehensive AMC exceeds roughly 25-30% of the purifier's current market price each year.

Brand AMC versus independent AMC

Brand AMC costs more and gives you genuine parts, manufacturer accountability and no warranty risk. It is the right choice while the unit is still under warranty, and for anything involving the membrane on a premium model.

Independent AMC from a local provider costs 20-40% less and is often faster to attend, because you are dealing with someone whose whole business is fifteen kilometres wide. The trade-off is parts provenance.
