Most people buy air purifiers based on a city-level AQI number produced by a monitoring station several kilometres away. That number describes outdoor air at that station. It does not describe your bedroom, which has different ventilation, different sources and, if you cook with gas or have recently fitted new furniture, potentially worse air than the street outside.
Indoor air quality testing measures what is actually in the rooms you occupy. In practice that means particulate — PM2.5 and PM10 — plus the parameters that outdoor AQI ignores entirely: volatile organic compounds off-gassing from furniture and paint, formaldehyde from engineered wood, carbon dioxide accumulating in closed rooms overnight, and relative humidity, which governs both dust-mite and mould growth.
The most frequent finding in Indian homes is not the one people expect. It is CO₂ in bedrooms — closed, air-conditioned, two adults, eight hours, no ventilation — reaching levels at which sleep quality and next-day alertness are measurably affected. No air purifier fixes that, because purifiers recirculate rather than ventilate. Knowing it is the difference between buying a fourth purifier and fitting a ₹6,000 fresh-air vent.

Indicative market rates for sanity-checking a quote. Pricing for identical work varies by 40-60% between providers in the same city, which is why collecting more than one quote is worth the two minutes it takes.
| Assessment | Scope | Indicative cost | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-room spot check | PM2.5, PM10, VOC, CO₂, humidity | ₹1,500 - ₹3,000 | 45 minutes |
| Residential (2-3 BHK) | All rooms, outdoor baseline, ventilation assessment | ₹3,500 - ₹7,000 | 2-3 hours |
| Residential (4 BHK / villa) | All rooms plus source identification | ₹6,000 - ₹9,000 | 3-4 hours |
| Post-renovation VOC panel | TVOC + formaldehyde, room by room | ₹5,000 - ₹12,000 | 2-3 hours |
| Small office (up to 25 seats) | Zone-wise, CO₂ mapping, HVAC assessment | ₹8,000 - ₹15,000 | Half day |
| Continuous monitoring (7 days) | Logged data, day/night profile | ₹10,000 - ₹25,000 | 1 week |

What's included in indoor air quality testing
This is the scope we ask providers to quote against. Holding every quote to the same list is what makes them comparable — otherwise you are choosing the cheapest number rather than the best value.
- Calibrated measurement of PM2.5 and PM10 in every main room.
- Total VOC measurement, with formaldehyde where engineered wood or recent fit-out is present.
- CO₂ concentration measured under normal occupancy — the parameter that most often explains poor sleep.
- Relative humidity and temperature mapped room by room.
- Simultaneous outdoor baseline, so indoor readings are interpretable rather than absolute.
- Ventilation assessment — air changes per hour, and where fresh air actually enters.
- Source identification: cooking, traffic ingress, furniture off-gassing, damp, or outdoor infiltration.
- A written report with readings against WHO and CPCB reference values, plus specific remediation steps.
Not included
- Laboratory microbiological analysis for mould speciation, quoted separately.
- Purifiers, ventilation equipment or remediation work subsequently recommended.
- Continuous long-term monitoring, available as a separate week-long deployment.
How it works
- 1Tell us what you needOne short form — your city, the job, and how soon you need it. Takes under a minute and costs nothing.
- 2We match you with local providersWe route your request to up to 3 verified providers who actually cover your area, so you are not waiting on someone forty kilometres away.
- 3Compare the quotesThey contact you directly, usually by WhatsApp so you get it in writing. Check what you are quoted against the indicative rates published on this page.
- 4Book whoever you wantYou deal with the provider directly and pay them for the work. There is no obligation to accept any quote.
What gets measured, and why each one matters
- PM2.5 — fine particulate that reaches deep into the lungs. The parameter air purifiers actually address, and the one to size CADR against.
- PM10 — coarser dust from roads and construction. Dominant in Mumbai, Chennai and anywhere near active building work.
- TVOC — total volatile organic compounds, from paint, adhesives, cleaning products and furniture. Elevated for months after a fit-out.
- Formaldehyde — specifically from engineered wood, plywood and laminate. A known irritant and a common finding in new modular kitchens.
- CO₂ — a direct proxy for ventilation adequacy. Above 1,000 ppm, cognitive performance measurably declines.
- Relative humidity — below 30% causes respiratory irritation; above 60% drives dust mites and mould. Both are common in Indian homes at different seasons.
Note
When testing is genuinely worth the money
- After any renovation, new modular furniture, laminate flooring or repainting — VOC and formaldehyde levels stay elevated for months.
- When someone in the household has unexplained persistent respiratory symptoms, headaches or poor sleep.
- Before buying multiple air purifiers. Testing costs a fraction of a ₹60,000 multi-room purchase and tells you how many you need and where.
- When there is a visible damp or mould problem, to establish extent and airborne spore load.
- In offices, where CO₂ accumulation and HVAC recirculation problems affect productivity measurably and are invisible without instruments.
- If you already own purifiers and are unsure whether they are doing anything — a before-and-after measurement settles it.
What the report should give you
Numbers, references and actions. Every reading should appear against a reference value — WHO guideline or CPCB standard as applicable — so you can see not just what the level is but whether it matters. A report that returns 'PM2.5: 68 µg/m³' without context is data, not information.
The actionable half is the recommendation. Which rooms need purification and at what CADR, given the room volume and measured infiltration. Where ventilation rather than filtration is the answer. Which sources can simply be removed — the wrong cleaning product, an unvented gas hob, a damp wall. In our experience the cheapest recommendations are usually the most effective, and they only surface once you have measured.

What "verified" means
It is a specific claim, so here is exactly what it covers. Every provider on this network has:
- Government photo ID and address verified at onboarding
- Business registration or GST number on file where applicable
- References checked from at least three completed jobs
- Agreed to publish itemised pricing before starting work
- Agreed to record input and output TDS on every service slip
- Removed from the network after two unresolved customer complaints
Verification covers identity, registration and references. It is not a guarantee of workmanship on any individual job, and we are not a party to the contract between you and the provider — you engage and pay them directly. If a job goes wrong, tell us: providers are removed from the network after two unresolved complaints.
What you get from us
- Free to useYou pay the provider for the work, never us for the introduction.
- Compare before you commitMultiple quotes for the same job, so you can see the spread.
- Indicative rates publishedEvery page shows what the job should cost, so you can sanity-check any quote.
- No obligationTake a quote or leave it. There is no cancellation charge because there is nothing to cancel.
