Your purifier's filter light is blinking — what it is actually telling you
On most domestic purifiers the filter light is driven by a timer or a litre counter, not by a sensor measuring filter condition. It tells you the scheduled interval has elapsed — which may or may not mean your filters are actually spent.

1. Scheduled service interval elapsed
How to confirm it
The normal case. Check how long since the last filter change against the maker's interval — commonly 6-12 months, or a fixed litre count. If it roughly matches, the light is doing its job.
The fix
Change the filters that are genuinely due, then reset the counter. Ask which cartridges are being replaced and why; a full-set change is not always necessary.

2. Counter not reset after a filter change
How to confirm it
The light returns immediately or within a day of a service. The filters are new; the machine simply does not know it.
The fix
Reset the service counter using the model's documented procedure — usually a press-and-hold on a reset button or a specific button combination. It is in the manual, and it takes seconds.

3. Germkill or UV kit expiry with auto-shutoff
How to confirm it
Some models — several Pureit units in particular — deliberately stop dispensing when the germkill kit expires, so that nobody unknowingly drinks unprotected water. If the machine has stopped entirely and shows a service warning, this is likely by design.

Replace the germkill or UV kit. The unit will resume once the new kit is fitted and registered.

4. Genuine sensor or electronics fault
How to confirm it
Consider only after a reset has been attempted properly. Indicators behaving erratically, several lights on at once, or a light that will not clear after a correct reset point at the control board.
The fix
Have the control board or sensor assembly diagnosed. Get a quote before authorising — on an older unit a board replacement can approach the cost of a new purifier.
