Commercial laundry on hard water is an ongoing, quantifiable loss. Calcium and magnesium react with detergent to form insoluble curd, so you consume noticeably more detergent for the same wash result, linen greys and stiffens, and scale accumulates in machines and heating elements.
The fix is a correctly sized softener, and it is one of the easier business cases in commercial water treatment: detergent savings and extended linen life typically justify it well within a normal capital planning horizon.
