Our verdict
The bottom-freezer layout is straightforwardly better ergonomics and the Indian market has been slow to adopt it. You open the fresh-food compartment many times a day and the freezer occasionally; putting the fresh food at chest height and the freezer in a drawer below matches the appliance to how it is actually used. Haier bringing that format to ₹28,000 is the most interesting thing in this price band.
The machine backing it up is good. A twin inverter compressor, 217 declared units for 265 L, five convertible modes and 198 L of usable fresh-food space put it squarely alongside the LG and Samsung on substance, and the pull-out freezer drawer is far more usable than a top box — nothing gets lost at the back because there is no back, only depth you can see into.
The reservation is service. Haier is expanding fast but is still behind LG, Whirlpool and Godrej outside metros and large tier-2 cities. Check that there is a service centre in your city before buying. If there is, this is the most sensible ₹28,000 in the category. If there is not, buy the LG.
