The deciding factors
Look at the running cost line: ₹1,800 a year against ₹3,500-6,500 for most rivals. Daikin's electrostatic HEPA is rated for up to a decade provided you actually vacuum and wash it on schedule, and the Streamer discharge breaks down what the filter has captured rather than letting it sit there breeding. Over five years of ownership this is one of the cheapest purifiers here despite the sticker price.
Against that, Sharp FP-J40M makes its case differently: Judge this on its HEPA filtration, which is genuinely good, and treat Plasmacluster as a bonus rather than the reason to buy. Active ion technologies do have published research behind them, but they are far harder for a buyer to verify than a straightforward H13 particulate rating — so make sure the fundamentals stack up first. They do here.
Our practical advice: unless the Daikin MC55 Streamer's specific advantages match a real constraint you have — tank size for long water cuts, a higher TDS rating for brackish supply, hot water you will genuinely use — the cheaper unit is the better purchase. In this category, paying for capability you will never use is the most common way money gets wasted.
