Buy Brita if

  • Your water is already microbiologically safe and you dislike the chlorine taste
  • You want something portable with no plumbing or power

Look elsewhere if

  • You are on borewell, tanker or high-TDS supply
  • You need protection against arsenic, fluoride, nitrate or bacteria

The global leader in filter jugs. Brita is not an RO alternative — its activated-carbon and ion-exchange cartridges improve taste, cut chlorine and reduce limescale, but they do not remove dissolved salts, so they cannot fix high-TDS Indian groundwater. Excellent for low-TDS municipal supply, travel and offices.

Brita strengths

  • Zero installation, zero electricity, fully portable
  • Genuinely effective on chlorine taste and odour
  • Cheap entry price and widely available cartridges

What to watch for

  • Does NOT reduce TDS, heavy metals at scale, or bacteria — wrong tool for borewell water
  • Ongoing cartridge cost per litre is high versus a plumbed purifier

Brita service, AMC & customer care

Brita's service network is rated limited in our assessment. That means coverage in India is genuinely limited. Before buying, confirm that a technician serves your area and that replacement filters can be delivered to your pin code — an appliance you cannot service or re-filter is a poor purchase at any price.

Before ordering any purifier, call the brand's customer care, give them your pin code and ask two questions: is there a technician covering this area, and how many days does a filter-change request typically take? Then ask for the AMC price in writing. That five-minute call prevents most of the regret in this category.

  • Raise service requests through Brita's official website only. Third parties advertising "authorised Britaservice" frequently have no brand relationship, charge more and fit non-genuine parts.
  • Always insist on a ticket or complaint reference number, and note the promised response window.
  • Ask the technician to record input and output TDS readings on the service slip at every visit. It is your evidence base and it makes vague diagnoses much harder to sustain.

Brita — frequently asked questions

Is Brita a good water purifier brand?
Only for taste, and only on already-safe water. A Brita jug is a carbon filter, not a purifier, and it should not be relied on for Indian tap water in most cities. Brita's filters reduce chlorine taste, odour and some metals. They do not reduce TDS, and they do not remove arsenic, fluoride, nitrate or bacteria — the contaminants that actually matter in Indian supply. Buy it if: your water is already microbiologically safe and you dislike the chlorine taste. Look elsewhere if: you are on borewell, tanker or high-tds supply.
Which is the best Brita water purifier?
The Brita Marella Filter Jug at around ₹2,290 is our top-scoring Brita model at 6.9/10. Offices, hotel rooms, travel, and improving the taste of already-safe municipal water.
How do I contact Brita customer care?
Use the official support page on Brita's own website and raise a service request there, insisting on a ticket reference number. We deliberately do not publish support phone numbers, because they change and stale numbers send people to third parties impersonating brand service. Have your model name, serial number and purchase date ready.
What is the Brita AMC cost?
For a domestic water purifier, expect a comprehensive AMC covering all consumables to cost roughly ₹2,500-₹4,500 a year, more for copper, alkaline or hot-water models. Brita pricing is quoted locally and varies between cities, so get it in writing and confirm explicitly whether the RO membrane is included — that is the most common exclusion.
