Our verdict

If you want to stop researching and buy something correct, buy this. The AC2939 gets the two things right that actually determine whether an air purifier improves your life: enough CADR to genuinely turn over the air in a real Indian living room, and a numeric PM2.5 readout so you can see it working rather than trusting a glowing ring.

That numeric display deserves emphasis. Most purifiers show you a colour. A colour cannot tell you that your bedroom went from 180 to 22 µg/m³ in forty minutes, and it cannot tell you that your filter is exhausted. Being able to read the number is what turns an air purifier from an act of faith into an appliance.

Filter economics are the other reason this wins. Philips filters are stocked everywhere and cost sane money, which is why these units are still running in Indian homes five years later while cheaper purifiers with unobtainable filters sit unused in storerooms.

What we like

  • Numeric PM2.5 display means you can actually verify it is working, not trust a colour
  • 333 m³/h CADR genuinely covers a large Indian drawing room
  • Filters are widely available and reasonably priced — the thing that decides long-term ownership
  • Very quiet on sleep mode at around 20 dB
  • Two-year warranty and Philips' reliable India service network

What we don't

  • Functional rather than beautiful design
  • Audible at the top two fan speeds
  • No formaldehyde-specific filtration

About Philips

The sensible default for most Indian homes. Philips' AC-series combines real HEPA filtration, an honest numeric PM2.5 readout rather than a vague colour ring, and India's best-supported air-purifier service network at prices well below Dyson.

November proof

Outdoor AQI was 420 and my bedroom held at 30-40 with the door shut. The number on the display is the reason I trust it. Filter change after 20 months cost less than I expected.

Helped my son's allergies

Running it in the bedroom overnight has cut morning sneezing noticeably. Quiet on sleep mode. On turbo it is definitely loud, but you only need that for an hour.

Philips 2000i Series AC2939 — frequently asked questions

Which is the best air purifier for home in India?
For most homes, the Philips 2000i Series AC2939 — it combines 333 m³/h CADR, true HEPA filtration, a numeric PM2.5 display and affordable, easily available filters. Choose the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 if budget is the priority, the Coway Sleek Pro for the best pure performance, or a Dyson if you want the sensing and design and accept the premium.
How do I know if my air purifier is actually working?
Buy one with a numeric PM2.5 readout, then test it: note the reading, close the room, run the purifier on high for 30-45 minutes and watch the number fall. If it does not drop substantially in a closed room, your filter is exhausted, the room is too large for the unit's CADR, or outside air is leaking in. A colour-only indicator cannot give you this proof.
