About this grooming device

  • BeardSense reads density 125 times a second and adds motor power automatically — the trimmer equivalent of Braun's AutoSense, and it works
  • 0.4 mm minimum is the shortest cut of any Philips trimmer sold in India, close to a true stubble finish
  • 120 minutes of runtime with a one-hour charge and a five-minute quick top-up
  • Sixteen heads genuinely cover face, body, nose, ear and full haircuts, so it can be the only device you own
  • Zero running cost across all sixteen attachments thanks to self-sharpening DualCut blades

Our verdict

BeardSense is the reason this exists rather than being a Series 7000 with more plastic in the box. Reading beard density 125 times a second and lifting motor speed on the dense patches solves the specific failure that makes cheap multigroom kits feel bad — the stall and drag when the blade hits a thick section. On coarse Indian beard hair that is not a subtle difference, and it is the same principle that justifies Braun's AutoSense in shavers.

The 0.4 mm minimum is the second genuinely useful specification. Philips does not sell a true zero-cut trimmer in India, and 0.4 mm is as close as the brand gets — short enough to read as clean stubble rather than a trim. If you have been considering a Beardo or VGR zero-cut machine purely for that reason, this gets most of the way there with self-sharpening blades and a real warranty.

Whether it beats the MG7715 at ₹700 less is a closer call than the spec sheet suggests. Both have zero running cost, both charge in an hour, both cover face and body. You are paying the difference for BeardSense, the shorter minimum length and three more heads. If you have a coarse, dense beard, that is money well spent. If you do not, buy the 7000.

What we like

  • BeardSense reads density 125 times a second and adds motor power automatically — the trimmer equivalent of Braun's AutoSense, and it works
  • 0.4 mm minimum is the shortest cut of any Philips trimmer sold in India, close to a true stubble finish
  • 120 minutes of runtime with a one-hour charge and a five-minute quick top-up
  • Sixteen heads genuinely cover face, body, nose, ear and full haircuts, so it can be the only device you own
  • Zero running cost across all sixteen attachments thanks to self-sharpening DualCut blades

What we don't

  • ₹5,199 is a lot for a trimmer, and the MG7715 does 80% of this for ₹700 less
  • Sixteen attachments is more than almost anyone will use — you are paying for heads that stay in the case
  • Body still is not fully immersible despite wet-and-dry heads
  • Bulky in the hand with the full-size head fitted

About Philips

The sensible default for most Indian homes, in two different categories. Philips' AC-series air purifiers combine real HEPA filtration, an honest numeric PM2.5 readout rather than a vague colour ring, and India's best-supported purifier service network at prices well below Dyson. In male grooming Philips is simply the market — OneBlade, the BT/MG trimmer families and the Series 3000-9000 shavers together hold a share no rival approaches, and the reason is unglamorous: spare combs, replacement blades and service centres exist in tier-2 and tier-3 India, which is where most trimmers actually die.

BeardSense is the real feature

You can hear it change pitch when it hits the thick part of my beard, and it does not bog down like my old kit. The 0.4 mm setting is basically stubble. Expensive but it replaced three devices.

Philips MG9530/15 All-in-One Trimmer 9000 (16-in-1) — frequently asked questions

Philips 13-in-1 vs 16-in-1 — which all-in-one trimmer should I buy?
The 16-in-1 (MG9530) adds BeardSense automatic motor control, a shorter 0.4 mm minimum length and three more attachments over the 13-in-1 (MG7715), for roughly ₹700 more. Both share self-sharpening DualCut blades, 120-minute runtime and one-hour charging. Buy the 16-in-1 if you have coarse or dense hair that makes trimmers stall; buy the 13-in-1 otherwise and spend the difference on a dedicated shaver.
