About this vacuum cleaner

  • Philips publishes air watts, not just motor watts — 370 AW is a real, comparable figure and it is a strong one
  • PowerCyclone 5 separation genuinely keeps suction constant as the bin fills, which cheap cyclonic units do not
  • Washable filter and no bags means running cost is effectively zero over the life of the machine
  • 9 m cleaning radius covers most Indian flats from one or two sockets
  • The best service and spares network of any premium vacuum brand in India

Our verdict

If you want one machine for daily and weekly cleaning of a typical Indian flat, this is the one we would buy. The reason is the number Philips publishes and almost nobody else does: 370 air watts. Air watts measure the work actually done at the nozzle, whereas the 1,800 W on the box measures electricity drawn. Brands with weak sealing quote the latter because it is the flattering number — Philips quoting the former is a signal about the engineering.

In use it is quick, quiet by the standards of the category, and the auto-rewind cord plus 9 m radius means you are not constantly hunting for sockets. The cyclonic separation holds suction as the bin fills, which is the difference between a machine that cleans the last room as well as the first and one that does not.

Two honest caveats. The 1.5 L bin is small for a whole-house clean, and this is not a true-HEPA sealed system — if the driver for buying is asthma or dust-mite allergy rather than general cleanliness, a sealed HEPA machine is the correct category and this is not it.

What we like

  • Philips publishes air watts, not just motor watts — 370 AW is a real, comparable figure and it is a strong one
  • PowerCyclone 5 separation genuinely keeps suction constant as the bin fills, which cheap cyclonic units do not
  • Washable filter and no bags means running cost is effectively zero over the life of the machine
  • 9 m cleaning radius covers most Indian flats from one or two sockets
  • The best service and spares network of any premium vacuum brand in India

What we don't

  • 1.5 L bin is small — expect to empty it during a whole-house clean
  • Not a true-HEPA machine despite the marketing language; for allergy control look elsewhere
  • Emptying a bagless bin is dusty, which partly defeats the point if you are dust-sensitive

About Philips

The sensible default for most Indian homes, in two different categories. Philips' AC-series air purifiers combine real HEPA filtration, an honest numeric PM2.5 readout rather than a vague colour ring, and India's best-supported purifier service network at prices well below Dyson. In male grooming Philips is simply the market — OneBlade, the BT/MG trimmer families and the Series 3000-9000 shavers together hold a share no rival approaches, and the reason is unglamorous: spare combs, replacement blades and service centres exist in tier-2 and tier-3 India, which is where most trimmers actually die.

Philips PowerPro Compact FC9351/01 — frequently asked questions

Is the Philips FC9351 good for Indian homes?
Yes — it is our overall pick for a typical Indian flat. The 9 m cleaning radius covers most 2BHK and 3BHK layouts from one or two sockets, it handles the mix of tiles, marble and rugs common in Indian homes, and the bagless design means no consumable bags to source. Its limits are the 1.5 L bin, which needs emptying during a full-house clean, and the lack of true HEPA sealing.
What is the difference between air watts and motor watts?
Motor watts measure the electricity the motor consumes. Air watts measure the suction power actually delivered at the nozzle, accounting for airflow and sealing losses. Only air watts tell you how much dirt a vacuum will lift. The FC9351 draws 1,800 motor watts and delivers 370 air watts; a poorly sealed 2,000 W machine can deliver far less. Where a brand quotes only motor watts, it is usually because the air-watt figure is unflattering.
