If you are buying a side-by-side, this is the one. Samsung's 653 L is the most complete execution of the format in India: Twin Cooling Plus for independent columns, a 20-year compressor warranty, 100 V stabiliser-free tolerance, through-door water and ice, and convertible modes that let the freezer column become fridge space when you are not using it.
Be clear about what the format is and is not good at. Everything is at eye level and nothing is buried, which is the genuine ergonomic win. But each column is narrow — around 40 cm of shelf width — so wide items are a recurring problem. A birthday cake box, a large thali tray or half a watermelon will defeat it in a way a 300 L double door handles without thinking. Buyers moving up from a double door are consistently surprised by this.
Buy it for a large household with a planned kitchen and a preference for everything visible at once. If your storage is bulky rather than numerous, a French door — which gives you the full cabinet width for fresh food — is the better ₹85,000.

Is a side-by-side worth it over a large double door?
It depends on what you store, not on how much. A side-by-side puts everything at eye level and gives you through-door water and ice, which is a real daily convenience. But each column is only about 40 cm wide, so wide items — trays, cake boxes, large watermelons — do not fit, and buyers upgrading from a double door are routinely caught out by this. It also costs roughly ₹1,100 a year more to run. If you store many small items, a side-by-side is better; if you store bulky ones, a French door or a large double door is better.
How much space does a side-by-side actually need?
More than the 912 mm cabinet width suggests. Allow at least 50 mm total clearance at the sides and 75 mm at the back for airflow, so plan for a gap of about 1,000 mm. Then check the door swing: both doors need to open close to 120 degrees for the drawers to pull out, which means roughly 1,300 mm of clear floor in front. Measure the doorway and any turns on the route in as well — a 716 mm deep cabinet will not pass a 700 mm doorway.
