The only jug that genuinely takes TDS to near zero
Our editorial score
Adequate — buy only for its niche
Renters and hostellers on moderate-TDS supply who cannot install anything permanent.
ZeroWater is the interesting outlier: an ion-exchange jug that actually does reduce dissolved solids, verifiably, with the meter included so you can prove it. For a hostel room or a short lease where drilling a wall is impossible, that capability has no real competitor.
Run the maths before committing though. Cartridge life is inversely proportional to input TDS, and on 600 ppm Indian groundwater a cartridge can exhaust in a couple of weeks. At that point you are spending more per year than the running cost of a ₹13,000 RO. It makes sense on moderate-TDS supply, or as a temporary solution — not as a permanent answer to hard water.
Every condition below is derived from this product's published specifications and from how it compares with the water purifiers we track — so you can check each one against your own room, supply or budget rather than take our word for it.
Your supply runs above 400 ppm TDS
It is suited to supply up to about 400 ppm. Above that this technology removes nothing dissolved, so the water will be disinfected but not desalinated.
Purifiers for high-TDS supply →Your area has documented arsenic, fluoride or nitrate contamination
There is no reverse-osmosis stage. UV and UF deal with bacteria, viruses and cysts, and remove nothing dissolved — so against those contaminants this offers no protection at all, whatever the TDS reading says.
Book a NABL lab water test →You have a large household or frequent supply cuts
Storage is only 2.8 litres. That empties quickly for a family of five, and it refills at mains pressure — which is exactly what you do not have during a cut.
Low running cost is a priority
Consumables and routine service run about ₹9,000 a year, which is in the most expensive quarter of the water purifiers we track. Over five years that puts total ownership near ₹49,290.
Sort the database by five-year cost →You live outside a metro or a major service town
ZeroWater's service network is rated limited rather than excellent. Filter availability and callout times are what decide whether a purifier is still running in five years, and they are worth checking for your pin code before you buy.
How we score service reach →Weak transparency. This is separate from our review score above — it measures how well documented, how supportable and how expensive to own this water purifier is, scored on 4 of 7 axes by formula, with no manual override. See the methodology.

Specifications are from manufacturer literature and were checked at the last price-verification date. Brands occasionally revise stage counts, tank sizes and warranty terms without changing the model name — confirm against the current listing before purchasing.
A five-stage ion-exchange filter jug that genuinely does reduce TDS to near zero — unusual for a non-RO device — and ships with a TDS meter so you can prove it. The catch is cartridge economics: on Indian high-TDS water, filters exhaust fast and cost per litre becomes steep.
