About this grooming device

  • Objectively the closest and most comfortable electric shave available — five synchronised elements clear a dense beard in a single pass
  • AutoSense reads beard density 13 times a second and adds power on thick patches, so you stop pressing hard and stop irritating skin
  • The ProLift trimmer catches flat-lying hairs on the neck that every other shaving system leaves behind
  • IPX7 fully waterproof with genuinely excellent wet-shave performance using gel
  • The SmartCare station is not a gimmick — automatic cleaning and lubrication measurably extends cassette life
  • Build quality and long-term reliability are the best in the category; six-year-old units are routinely still in daily service

Our verdict

The Series 9 Pro+ is the best electric shaver sold, and saying so is easy. The interesting question is whether you should buy it, and that turns entirely on how often you shave. Amortised over five years of daily shaving, ₹45,000 is roughly ₹25 a shave including cassettes — cheaper than a barber and comparable to cartridge razors. Amortised over twice-weekly use, it is an extravagance and a Series 5 does almost everything it does.

What justifies the engineering is AutoSense. Every other shaver runs its motor at a constant rate and leaves you to compensate for dense patches by pressing harder — which is precisely what causes irritation, razor burn and the post-shave rash that sends men back to blades. The Series 9 reads density thirteen times a second and adds power instead, so the correct technique becomes letting the machine glide. For sensitive skin with a coarse beard, that difference is the entire product.

Budget the cassettes honestly before buying. At roughly ₹6,000 every 12-18 months, consumables cost about ₹4,000 a year, and a Series 9 running on a three-year-old cassette shaves worse than a new Series 3. The SmartCare station helps by keeping the foils clean and lubricated, but it is a delay, not a reprieve. If a recurring ₹4,000 line item is unwelcome, the honest recommendation is the Series 5 or a Panasonic Arc5.

What we don't

  • ₹45,000 is a genuinely luxury purchase, and the shave is not five times better than a ₹9,000 Braun Series 5
  • Replacement cassettes run about ₹6,000 every 12-18 months — roughly ₹4,000 a year in consumables
  • Cleaning-station cartridges are an additional recurring cost and can be hard to source outside metros
  • Braun's Indian service network is authorised-centre only and thin outside the top cities
  • Foils follow a strongly angular jaw less easily than a rotary — a minority of faces genuinely prefer Philips

When this is not a good choice

Every condition below is derived from this product's published specifications and from how it compares with the trimmers and shavers we track — so you can check each one against your own room, supply or budget rather than take our word for it.

  • Low running cost is a priority

Consumables and routine service run about ₹4,000 a year, which is in the most expensive quarter of the grooming purifiers we track. Over five years that puts total ownership near ₹64,990.

Sort the database by five-year cost
  • You live outside a metro or a major service town

Braun's service network is rated good rather than excellent. Filter availability and callout times are what decide whether a purifier is still running in five years, and they are worth checking for your pin code before you buy.

About Braun

The foil-shaver benchmark. Braun's Series 5, 7, 8 and 9 Pro+ are the machines against which close-shave claims are measured, and the reason is the cutting architecture: a pair of oscillating foils flanking a central trimmer, driven by a sonic motor that reads beard density and adjusts power. On flat planes — cheeks, neck, jawline — nothing shaves closer with less pressure, which is precisely why Braun is the standing recommendation for sensitive skin. The trade-off is honest and well known: foils are less forgiving on a strongly contoured face than a rotary head, and Braun's India pricing carries an import premium over the same model in Europe.

Ended fifteen years of razor burn

Coarse beard, sensitive neck, tried everything. This is the first machine that does my neck without leaving red patches. Expensive, and the cassettes are expensive, but I shave every day and it has been worth it.

Brilliant, but consider the Series 8

No complaints about the shave at all — it is superb. Having used a friend's Series 8 I would say the gap is small and the price gap is not. Buy this if you want the best; buy the 8 if you want sense.

Braun Series 9 Pro+ 9567cc — frequently asked questions

Braun Series 8 vs Series 9 — which should I buy?
The Series 9 Pro+ adds a fifth cutting element, the ProLift trimmer for flat-lying neck hair, a more advanced AutoSense system and a 40-degree pivoting head, against the Series 8's four elements. On a dense, coarse beard the Series 9 needs fewer passes and is noticeably better on the neck. On a normal beard the difference is small and the Series 8 costs roughly 40% less. Buy the Series 9 if you shave daily with a heavy beard and sensitive skin; otherwise the Series 8 is the sensible purchase.
How often do Braun Series 9 replacement heads cost and how often are they needed?
A Series 9 cassette (94M or 94Mb) costs roughly ₹5,500-₹6,500 in India and Braun recommends replacement every 18 months, though heavy daily shavers often find 12 months more realistic. That works out to about ₹4,000 a year. Using the SmartCare cleaning station extends cassette life meaningfully because the foils stay clean and lubricated.
Is the Braun Series 9 good for sensitive skin?
It is the best option available for sensitive skin, for a specific engineering reason: AutoSense reads beard density 13 times per second and increases motor power on dense patches automatically. That removes the need to press harder, and pressure — not the blade — is what causes most electric-shave irritation. Combine it with a wet shave using gel and it is about as gentle as electric shaving gets.
