Stopped my ingrown hairs
Curly coarse beard and I used to get bumps under my jaw constantly with a razor. Two months on this and they are almost gone. It takes a couple of passes and the battery is not great, but it solved my actual problem.
Brand: Braun
The cheapest genuine Braun foil shave, and it is still a Braun
Our editorial score
Very good — recommended
Sensitive skin and ingrown-hair sufferers on a budget who specifically want a foil rather than a rotary.
The Series 3 ProSkin's job is to make Braun's foil shave affordable, and it does that honestly. The twin SensoFoils and the MicroComb are the same engineering principles as the expensive models, executed more simply: hair is fed into the foil and cut flush at the surface, without the twisting action a rotary uses. For men who get ingrown hairs or post-shave bumps, that mechanical difference is the entire reason to buy a foil, and it is fully present here.
What you sacrifice is convenience and speed. The NiMH battery is a generation behind lithium and will not hold charge as well after three years. There is no AutoSense, so dense patches require a slower second pass. And three cutting elements against the Series 8's four means a heavy beard simply takes longer.
The awkward part of the recommendation is what sits around it. At ₹5,299 the Philips Series 3000 rotary is ₹2,000 cheaper, and the Braun Series 5 is only about ₹4,200 more with lithium, IPX7 and better foils. This makes sense for one specific buyer: someone who needs a foil for skin reasons, has a hard budget ceiling near ₹5,000, and shaves often enough to want a real machine.
Every condition below is derived from this product's published specifications and from how it compares with the trimmers and shavers we track — so you can check each one against your own room, supply or budget rather than take our word for it.
Low running cost is a priority
Consumables and routine service run about ₹1,600 a year, which is in the most expensive quarter of the grooming purifiers we track. Over five years that puts total ownership near ₹13,299.

Braun's service network is rated good rather than excellent. Filter availability and callout times are what decide whether a purifier is still running in five years, and they are worth checking for your pin code before you buy.

Specifications are from manufacturer literature and were checked at the last price-verification date. Brands occasionally revise stage counts, tank sizes and warranty terms without changing the model name — confirm against the current listing before purchasing.
The foil-shaver benchmark. Braun's Series 5, 7, 8 and 9 Pro+ are the machines against which close-shave claims are measured, and the reason is the cutting architecture: a pair of oscillating foils flanking a central trimmer, driven by a sonic motor that reads beard density and adjusts power. On flat planes — cheeks, neck, jawline — nothing shaves closer with less pressure, which is precisely why Braun is the standing recommendation for sensitive skin. The trade-off is honest and well known: foils are less forgiving on a strongly contoured face than a rotary head, and Braun's India pricing carries an import premium over the same model in Europe.
Themes we see consistently in owner feedback for this model. These are illustrative of reported experience rather than a statistical sample — read the current marketplace reviews too, and weight recent ones most heavily.
