About this water purifier

  • Handles input TDS up to 2,000 ppm, which covers almost every Indian borewell
  • Save Water technology recovers roughly 50% versus the 20-25% of older RO designs
  • TDS controller lets you dial mineral retention rather than stripping the water flat
  • 9-litre tank is genuinely enough for a family of five during a supply cut
  • 3 years of free service included — the single best-value part of the package

Our verdict

If someone asks for one water purifier recommendation without telling me anything about their water, this is the answer. The Grand Plus is not the prettiest or the cheapest unit in this list, but it is the most consistently correct one: an RO membrane rated to 2,000 ppm input, UV and UF stages behind it, and a TDS controller so that low-TDS supply does not get stripped to tasteless.

The two features that actually justify the price over cheaper RO units are Save Water technology and the service package. Legacy RO designs throw away three litres for every litre they purify. KENT's recovery design roughly halves that, which in a metro paying for tankers is a real line item, not a green talking point. And the three years of free service matters more than any spec sheet — in this category the failure mode is almost never the hardware, it is a technician who never turns up.

Where it loses points: the design is unapologetically appliance-grade, the footprint is large, and there is no hot-water dispensing. If your water tests below 300 ppm, you are buying capability you will never use — look at a UV+UF unit instead and save both money and water.

What we like

  • Handles input TDS up to 2,000 ppm, which covers almost every Indian borewell
  • Save Water technology recovers roughly 50% versus the 20-25% of older RO designs
  • TDS controller lets you dial mineral retention rather than stripping the water flat
  • 9-litre tank is genuinely enough for a family of five during a supply cut
  • 3 years of free service included — the single best-value part of the package

What we don't

  • Bulky and visually dated; it will dominate a small kitchen wall
  • UV lamp is a serial consumable and adds to the AMC after year three
  • No hot water option in this model

When this is not a good choice

Every condition below is derived from this product's published specifications and from how it compares with the water purifiers we track — so you can check each one against your own room, supply or budget rather than take our word for it.

  • Your supply runs above 2,000 ppm TDS

The membrane is rated to 2,000 ppm. Feed it more and it will not fail dramatically — it will die early and quietly, and you will be buying membranes annually. Check your worst-season reading, not your average one.

About KENT

The brand that made 'RO' a household word in India. KENT's mineral-ROTM positioning — RO plus UV plus UF with a TDS controller — is still the template most competitors follow. Strongest on purification hardware and spares availability; weakest on design, where the white-and-blue plastic aesthetic has aged.

Finally water that does not taste salty

Our borewell tested at 1,150 ppm and every cheaper purifier we tried gave brackish water. Output now measures around 90 ppm on my own TDS pen. Installation took an hour and the technician actually explained the TDS controller setting.

Great water, big unit

Works exactly as promised and the free service visits have been on time. Only complaint is the size — plan your wall space before it arrives, it is much larger in person than in photos.

Tip

This unit is rated for high-TDS input, but membrane life still falls as TDS rises. Above roughly 1,200 ppm, plan on replacing the membrane every 10-12 months and never let the sediment or carbon pre-filters run past their schedule — that is what protects it.

KENT Grand Plus — frequently asked questions

Is KENT Grand Plus good for 1000 TDS water?
Yes. The Grand Plus RO membrane is rated for input TDS up to 2,000 ppm, so 1,000 ppm borewell water is well inside its design range. Expect output around 80-120 ppm depending on where you set the TDS controller. At that input level plan on replacing the membrane every 10-12 months rather than annually.
What is the difference between KENT Grand and KENT Grand Plus?
Grand Plus adds a higher purification rate (20 litres/hour versus 15), a larger 9-litre tank, and Save Water technology that improves recovery to about 50%. If you are choosing between them and your supply is intermittent, the larger tank and faster throughput are worth the difference.
What is the yearly maintenance cost of KENT Grand Plus?
Budget roughly ₹3,000-4,000 a year after the free-service period ends: sediment and carbon filters twice a year, an RO membrane every 12-18 months, and a UV lamp every 12-18 months. Ask your dealer for a written AMC quote — franchisee pricing varies widely between cities.
