The engineer's choice, and the most under-bought premium shaver brand in India. Panasonic's Arc series is built around two specifications nobody else matches: blades ground to a 30-degree nanopolished edge, and a linear motor spinning at 14,000 cycles per minute against Braun's roughly 10,000. The practical effect is that an Arc5 or Arc6 cuts thick, coarse, fast-growing beard hair — the common Indian beard type — in fewer passes and with less irritation than anything else sold here. Poor retail presence, not product, is why so few Indian buyers own one.

Panasonic strengths

  • 14,000 CPM linear motor cuts dense, coarse beards in fewer passes than any competitor
  • 30-degree nanopolished Japanese blades stay sharp for roughly two to three years of daily use
  • Arc5 and Arc6 flexible pivoting heads handle a contoured jaw and neck better than a fixed foil
  • Genuinely excellent wet-shave performance with gel — many owners never shave dry
  • The ER-GB range of trimmers is dependable, sharp and priced well below the shaver line

What to watch for

  • Thin Indian retail distribution — most Arc models arrive as imports with limited local warranty support
  • Replacement blade-and-foil sets are expensive and often need to be ordered rather than bought off a shelf
  • The Arc6 is very expensive in India and the real-world gain over the Arc5 is small for most beards
  • Service centres are far fewer than Philips or Braun outside the top eight cities

The most comfortable shave I have had

You genuinely do not press at all — the head floats and the motor does everything. One pass and done. It is absurdly expensive and I do not regret it, but the Arc5 would have been the sensible call.

    Halved my shaving time

Very thick beard, used to take eight minutes with a Braun Series 7. This does it in four and my neck is less irritated. Getting replacement blades in India is the only headache — I had to order online and wait.

Cuts my coarse beard without pulling

My Philips was catching on the thick part under my chin. This does not, at all. Being able to rinse the whole thing under the tap is a bigger deal than I expected. Charging is slow, that is the only downside.

Panasonic service, AMC & customer care

Panasonic's service network is rated limited in our assessment. That means coverage in India is genuinely limited. Before buying, confirm that a technician serves your area and that replacement filters can be delivered to your pin code — an appliance you cannot service or re-filter is a poor purchase at any price.

Before buying, check one thing the specification sheet will not tell you: whether replacement combs, blades or foils for the exact model are actually purchasable in India today. A Panasonic device with a lost comb and no spares route is a dead device, and that — far more often than a motor failure — is how grooming machines end up in a drawer.

  • Raise service requests through Panasonic's official website only — https://www.panasonic.com/in/support.html. Third parties advertising "authorised Panasonicservice" frequently have no brand relationship, charge more and fit non-genuine parts.
  • Always insist on a ticket or complaint reference number, and note the promised response window.
  • Keep the purchase invoice and the model number. Grooming warranty claims are almost always settled by replacement rather than repair, and the invoice is the only thing that decides it.

Panasonic — frequently asked questions

Is Panasonic a good grooming device brand?
The engineer's choice, and the most under-bought premium shaver brand in India. Panasonic's Arc series is built around two specifications nobody else matches: blades ground to a 30-degree nanopolished edge, and a linear motor spinning at 14,000 cycles per minute against Braun's roughly 10,000. The practical effect is that an Arc5 or Arc6 cuts thick, coarse, fast-growing beard hair — the common Indian beard type — in fewer passes and with less irritation than anything else sold here. Poor retail presence, not product, is why so few Indian buyers own one. Its service network is rated limited, and it sits in the premium price band. Thin Indian retail distribution — most Arc models arrive as imports with limited local warranty support
Which is the best Panasonic grooming device?
The Panasonic Arc6 ES-LS9A at around ₹52,990 is our top-scoring Panasonic model at 9.1/10. Enthusiasts with exceptionally dense beards who want the best shave available and accept the support risk. If budget is the priority, the Panasonic ER-GB37 Beard & Hair Trimmer at around ₹2,799 is the most affordable option in the range.
How do I contact Panasonic customer care?
Use the official support page on Panasonic's own website (https://www.panasonic.com/in/support.html) and raise a service request there, insisting on a ticket reference number. We deliberately do not publish support phone numbers, because they change and stale numbers send people to third parties impersonating brand service. Have your model name, serial number and purchase date ready.
What does a Panasonic device cost to run?
It depends entirely on the blade. Self-sharpening blades need no oil and no replacement, so running cost is genuinely zero for four to five years. Replaceable-blade and foil devices are the opposite: budget roughly ₹900 every four months for a Philips OneBlade blade, ₹2,400-₹6,000 every 12-18 months for a Braun cassette, and ₹2,200 every two years for a Philips rotary head set. Check which type a model uses before comparing sticker prices — over five years the consumable frequently costs more than the device.
